Jellypod Algal Bloom Controller

The Jellypod is a mechanical device, which uses sound waves and ultraviolet light to restore nature's balance for aquatic life by controlling the overabundance of harmful algal blooms in oceans and lakes.

Algal blooms are both harmful and important to a marine eco-system. Although they are naturally occurring they get out of control with human impact. Algal blooms provide nutrients such as phosphorous and nitrogen compounds and provide a natural environment for marine life.

The Jellypod is necessary because an overabundance of algal blooms deprive the ocean of water and oxygen and produce toxic effects on humans and other organisms.

The inspiration came from everyday activities that affect delicate marine life. The Jellypod closely resembles a jellyfish: one of the purist marine creatures composed of 95% water. Although it is made of plastic its transparent body allows it to blend harmoniously into the surrounding water.
